2008 - A brief revue of some of the numbers:

In 2008, The Weymouth Food Pantry serviced 5.414 families ( 14,198 individuals) an increase of 15.4% over 2007. We provided approximately 45,000 plus bags of groceries with a store value of approximately $577,000.

The average number of individuals served monthly in 2008 was 1246 For 2006, the number was 1048, and for 2007 it was 1136. This was an increase in 2007 of 8.4% over 2006, and 9.6% for 2008 over 2007, for a total 2 year compounded increase of 18.9% from 2006 to 2008. The trend line as shown on the chart indicates a continuing increase in the months ahead. This increase may be even greater given the effects of the current economy.

The Hunger Equation
Your $upport + Our Efforts = Less Hunger in Weymouth

We did this with the help of a generous community and with dedicated volunteers. We provided canned goods, pasta, rice, cereals, meats, milk, cheese, eggs, etc. When available, diapers, paper and some personal products were supplied.

Besides emergency food, information was given concerning food stamps, fuel assistance, WIC, education, and job training. The Outreach Program, available for elderly shut-ins and the handicapped, made 495 deliveries  in 2008 to those who were unable to come to the Food Pantry.

Who needs assistance?

There are many people right here in our town who need a helping hand. The greatest number of people we serve have either a physical or emotional disability or may be caring for someone with a disability. The second greatest number of people are the working poor. Many do not earn enough to pay for rent, utilities and clothing and still be able to provide their families with nutritious food. Over 10% of our clients are the elderly poor. They, too, are on a limited income and cannot afford to pay their bills plus the high cost of medications and still eat nourishing meals.

Those we serve come from diverse backgrounds, but all have one thing in common -- without the aid of the Food Pantry, they would suffer the dire effects of hunger!
