The 16th Annual $tock Our $helves Walk was held this year on Saturday, October 1st from the Monsignor Hackett Hall at Immaculate Conception Church, East Weymouth. The walk was started 16 years ago for just that purpose - to stock our shelves for the coming winter.

After the warm weather months of summer, our shelves are empty. No one thinks of hunger during the "lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer" except the people who are hungry!
This year, although the weather was less-than-perfect, our walkers took a leisurely 2 mile stroll along Broad Street to Middle Street, past Legion Field and back to the Food Pantry. This short walk was ideal for people of all ages. Walking groups, school teams, and other organizations walked together. Several made it a family outing with moms, dads, kids and grandparents joining the festivities. Once back at the Monsignor Hackett Hall of Immaculate Conception Church, the excitement of raffles, prizes and refreshments began. It was a fun day for all and the tentative total rasied at the conclusion of the walk was over $47,000. When all returns are in to include later mailed-in donations and after-the-fact on-line donations, we hope to have raised more than $50,000 of needed funds to provide food for the coming holidays.

Fighting Hunger is a Team Effort

Because our sole purpose is to feed the hungry of Weymouth, we strive to create a visible appearance in town. One key purpose of our $O$ Walk is to have everyone in Weymouth know that we are here to help those in need. Those of you who walked helped to make this happen. The more walkers we have, the more visible we are. The more visible we are, the more food we can supply. So, thanks to all who grabbed their family, friends and co-workers, named their team and collect pledges. Then came and walked with us. Our neighbors in need will thank you in the months ahead!
