Weymouth Food Pantry and Care Packs, Inc.

Over a period of several months, by holding meat raffles, a karaoke contest, and other raffles, they raised over $10,000 divided evenly between the Weymouth Food Pantry and CarePacks, Inc. In a brief ceremony at the food pantry, Charlie was officially recognized with the presentation of a Weymouth Food Pantry “Stock Our Shelves” Tee Shirts for himself and for Nancy as they have done more than their share to keep the pantry’s shelves stocked. With their fund-raising accomplishment, they join the more than 100 pantry volunteers whose combined efforts keep the pantry functioning.

Charlie commented that last year he and Nancy were aware that due to economic conditions, many people who were in need of help in one way or another were not receiving it, and decided to personally do something about it. They set a personal goal of raising $10,000 to be split between two worthwhile organizations whose missions were simply to help people. They felt the food pantry was a good choice as it would help provide basic groceries for some families in need due to tough economic times. And selected CarePacks to honor service personnel serving abroad with a “little something” to show them that their country cared. They felt that many small donations by many people could make a significant difference for both organizations.

CarePacks is a non-profit organization—staffed and managed entirely by volunteers—that is dedicated to sending care packages to US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Founded in 2004, CarePacks' goal is to provide these soldiers with supplies to help improve their morale, mental health, and quality of life, and to remind soldiers that they are remembered by people “back home.” More information on CarePacks is available on its website: www.CarePacks.org.
