What to expect at a pop-up pantry

When affording groceries becomes tough, the Weymouth Food Pantry is here to help. Everyone struggling to afford groceries qualifies.

Before you come: NEW! Now you can fill out our client intake form online, in the privacy of your home prior to your visit. Fill out your online form here. The option to fill out a physical form in person the day of your visit is still available if you prefer it.

Come as often as you need, but no more than once per calendar week (Monday through Sunday). Please bring proof of Weymouth residence such as a piece of mail (you can use your ID if that indicates you live in Weymouth), and a few reusable grocery bags.

When you first come in, you'll be given a number and offered a snack and some coffee as you wait your turn. If you filled out our client intake form online, a volunteer will confirm your information. If you need to fill out the form in person, a volunteer will sit down with you on your first visit to take down some basic information about you and what brought you to the Food Pantry*.

A volunteer will call a group of people at a time to come forward to shop. At that time, you'll be able to shop for your own food. If you'd like some eggs, for example, you would approach a table with a volunteer who has eggs. That volunteer might ask you how many people are in your family and hand you more or less based on that number. Volunteers are also there to help if you're looking for something specific.

Once you've chosen your groceries, volunteers will weigh your bags** and can help you out to your car or to a pre-paid cab if you need a lift home. You can trust that all volunteers will hold the fact that you came to the Food Pantry in confidence as this is a strict requirement of their volunteer service.

Have more questions? Visit our frequently asked questions page for additional information.

*Your use of the Food Pantry is entirely confidential. The data collection is for fundraising purposes to help us know what types of food to buy for the Food Pantry. The basic information you tell us will only be reported to our funders in general terms.

**We weigh the food to understand how much food the Food Pantry is distributing. This data is reported in one large number and not linked with your name.

Home delivery

For our home-bound elders and people with particular disabilities that prevent them access to our pop-up pantries, we can arrange a home delivery of groceries every three weeks. Our crew of 12 dedicated delivery volunteers bring food to the doors of approximately 100 of our neighbors. Please call 781-331-7682 for more details about our home delivery service.

^The Weymouth Food Pantry acknowledges the importance of pets as companions and partners with the South Shore Pet Food Pantry to provide pet food to our community via the Old South Union Church pop-up Pantry location. Please make your pet food donations directly to SSPFP.

^^The Clothing Closet is closed on the third Saturday of the month. The Clothing Closet is run by volunteers from Old South Union Church.
